Walmart fights shoplifting with AI-powered surveillance

Amazon’s checkout-free Go stores use AI-powered cameras to watch what shoppers put in their baskets and remove friction from the customer journey.

Walmart isn’t there (yet), but it has been surveilling its checkout registers at at least 1,000 stores using a computer vision technology called Missed Scan Detection to identify when items move past the scanner without having been scanned.
