Lowe’s Launches AI Sidekick for Store Associates
Lowe’s is rolling out Mylow Companion, the first large-scale AI assistant designed specifically for retail associates across its 1,700+ U.S. stores. Installed on sales floor devices, the AI tool gives quick access to product specs, inventory data, and project advice—making even new employees sound like seasoned pros. The initiative aims to boost customer service, accelerate onboarding, and cement Lowe’s position as the most assistive brand in the home improvement sector.
Built in partnership with OpenAI, Mylow Companion is the staff-facing counterpart to Mylow, the customer-facing virtual advisor launched earlier this year. Associates can interact with Mylow Companion using natural voice or text prompts—think “Which drill bit for concrete?” or “What’s the fix for a dripping faucet?”—and receive real-time, actionable responses. This human-meets-machine collaboration helps Lowe’s employees confidently address the wide-ranging, technical queries typical in home improvement retail.
The AI assistant’s launch marks another tech-first for Lowe’s, which previously introduced tools like the Apple Vision Pro app and digital store twins. By integrating cutting-edge AI directly into daily operations, Lowe’s is signaling a shift toward making expertise ubiquitous—regardless of tenure or training. As customer expectations rise and project complexity grows, Lowe’s isn’t just selling hammers; it’s handing associates a digital Swiss Army knife.
