HIGHLIGHTS: July 2023

Most interesting examples - lots of great AR this past month:

  • Nike AR activation - to send the US Women's National Team off to the World Cup, Nike created a fun webAR experience tied to PayPal Park in San Jose. The experience used Niantic/8th Wall's "Sky Effects" Feature.

  • Max AR-enhanced murals - We still miss HBO in the branding, but either way the streamer promoted season 3 of "Warrior" with custom street art murals that also featured an AR experience.

  • Space Invaders Reinvented - The classic video game has been reinvented at city scale using geo-spatial AR tech. Aliens appear to descend on skyscrapers, appear through wormholes coming out of buildings, and more. Super fun AR activation by the looks of it.

Most interesting Data:

  • Salesforce surveyed marketers on GenAI - and found that 60% believe the technology will transform their roles. Further, about half are already using or experimenting with GenAI, and another 22% are planning to do so soon. On the flip side, 43% report not knowing how to get the most value out of generative AI, and 39% don’t know how to safely use it.

Most interesting platform news:

  • Should we fear AI? - Definitely a hot topic that extends well beyond the advertising and marketing world. The debate is an important one, and big thinkers Bill Gates and Marc Andreessen have weighed in with their opinions. Andreessen takes a very data-driven approach to trying to prove that AI will actually save the world, while Gates suggests that the risks are real but manageable.
